Lifestyle This or That Questions

Habits, routines, and personality preferences

About these lifestyle questions

Habit and personality pairs — morning or night, planner or improviser, minimal or maximal. These are the closest This or That gets to a personality quiz, and they are the ones people quote back at each other afterwards. Because the answers say something about how a person runs their day, this is the set that turns a fast game into an actual conversation.

Best for: New housemates, new couples, team retreats, and anyone about to share a space or a schedule.

  • Ask a housemate or partner to guess your answer first. The misses are the interesting part.

How to Play This or That

This or That is a two-option choice game with no scoring and no losing. One player reads a pair, everyone answers immediately, and the game moves on. It is the fastest way to get a silent room talking because there is nothing to think about and no wrong answer.

The rules

  1. Read a pair out loud: option A or option B.
  2. Everyone answers within about two seconds — instinct only, no explaining.
  3. Ask "why?" on any pair that splits the room. That is where the conversation starts.
  4. Move to the next pair immediately. Pace is what makes this game work.

Ways to change it up

  • Split the room. Option A stands to the left, option B to the right. Works with any group size and burns off energy.
  • Guess the answer. One player predicts what another will choose before they answer. A point per correct guess.
  • Rapid fire. Ten pairs in a row against a timer. Anyone who hesitates or explains is out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on this page?

30 pairs, all shown in full on this page.

How long does a game take?

About two seconds per pair, so a full round of this list takes only a few minutes. That makes it the right game for a warm-up slot or a gap between activities rather than a whole evening.

How many players do you need?

Two is enough and there is no upper limit. For large groups, have option A stand on one side of the room and option B on the other — everyone answers at once and you can see the split instantly.

Is this list free to use?

Yes. Every prompt on this page is free to read, play from, print, or read aloud at an event. There is no account, no paywall and no download required — the full list is on this page.

How are these prompts checked?

Every prompt is reviewed by a person before it is published, and each one is tagged with the audiences it is suitable for. Anything that does not fit its rating gets corrected. You can report a prompt from the link at the bottom of any card.
