How to Play Truth or Dare
Truth or Dare gives each player a choice: answer a question honestly, or complete a challenge. It has survived for generations because the choice itself is the game — deciding which you are less willing to do says as much as either answer.
The rules
- Choose who goes first, then take turns clockwise.
- The player whose turn it is picks truth or dare before hearing the prompt.
- Read the next prompt of that type from the list, or draw one at random.
- The player answers honestly or completes the dare. Passing is always allowed.
- Play passes to the left. Rotate who reads so nobody controls the game.
Ways to change it up
- Spin the bottle. Spin to choose the next player instead of taking turns in order — less predictable, and nobody can plan ahead.
- Three passes. Each player gets three passes for the whole game. Once they are gone, they are gone.
- Group dare. Everyone completes the dare together. Takes the pressure off and is much funnier to watch.

Can a player refuse a dare?
Always. Agree before the first round that anyone can pass without giving a reason, and that the group moves on without comment. Games where passing is treated as a forfeit are the ones that end badly.

One that can be finished in about a minute, in the room you are already in, with nothing you do not already have, and that nobody will still be dealing with tomorrow. Dares involving strangers, heights, vehicles, other people's belongings or anything posted online are not worth the story.
